should也是情態(tài)動詞。

　　與ought的各種形式相同，should可用于現(xiàn)在時以及將來時。如位于動詞過去式之后時，也可以用于過去時。在上文的各例句中should可代替ought to使用。 　　否定式：should not/shouldn‘t

　　疑問式：should I?等

　　否定疑問式：should I not?/shouldn‘t I?等

　　should后面帶沒有to的不定式(即動詞原形)。

　　should和ought用于表示義務(wù)時通常意思是同樣的，但should 是較為常用的形式。

　　在會話中 should/ought to常可單獨使用，此時動詞不定式省略而不說出：

　　—You should paint/ought to paint your door.

　　—Yes，I know I should/I know I ought to.

　　—你應(yīng)當(dāng)油漆—下你的門。

　　—對，我知道我該這樣做。

　　should/would think引導(dǎo)一個附加評論時，一般不能用so/ not。這時必須使用that從句：

　　—He’s an astrologer， looking for work.

　　—I shouldn’t/wouldn’t think that he’d find it easy to get work.

　　—他是一個星相家，正在找工作。

　　—我想他大概不會感到找到一份工作是容易的。

　　如果評論發(fā)生在過去的動作，可以用should/would have thought：

　　—He actually got a job as an astrologer.

　　—I shouldn’t/wouldn’t have thought that it was possibe to do that.

　　—他真的以星相家的身份找了一份工作。

　　—我本來認(rèn)為那是不可能的。

　　should/would have expected+不定式結(jié)構(gòu)/that從句也是可行的。有時非人稱代詞you可代替I：

　　—She has emigrated.

　　—Has she? You’d/I’d have expected her to stay in this country.

　　—她移居國外了。

　　—是嗎?人們/我還以為她會留在國內(nèi)的。
